Bruce Jackson's Profile
Bruce Jackson was born on June 3, 1948 in Sydney, Australia. He was and audio-engineer and co-founder of JANDS which was an Australian lighting, audio and staging company. At the age of 17 he with Phil Storey formed a company and named it J&S Research Electronics which was later changed to be JANDS. After two years of start both got separated and Storey made the company Australia’s largest lighting and sound company.
He was introduced to digital audio in Fairlight CMI in Sydney. Then he founded Apogee Electronics at Santa Monica in California. Later he sold his share in the company and co-founded a joint venture with Roy and Tony Clair and produced the Clair iO which was a loudspeaker management system to control the complex sound systems in concerts. This Venture was commercialized by Jackson in collaboration with Lake Technology of Dave McGrath. Then it was bought by Dolby Laboratories and Dolby Lake was formed. Johnson was appointed vice president of it. Finally it was acquired by Lab gruppen.
Jackson met Clair brothers during their Sydney tour of the band Blood, Sweat & Tears and associated with them to design a mixing console that could be folded up in it own road case. While working with Clair brothers Jackson also toured with Elvis Presley and was mixing monitors for his shows. He then signed a contract with Bruce Springsteen to work as an independent engineer for his tours during eighties in the last century.
Jackson toured with various artists to mix concert sound and serve as a sound engineer. His tours with Barbra Streisand won him Emmy award for sound mixing and sound design with two others for the Streisand’s TV special Barbra: The Concert. He mixed concert sound for artists like Diana Ross, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Barry, Faces, The Jackson 5, Glenn Campbell, etc. He also worked on sound design for 2000 summer Olympics which was held in Sydney, 2006 Asian games and 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.
He was a passionate pilot and had license to fly since early adulthood. But this interest in flying for pleasure cost his death. His flight crashed in a dry lake bed near the Furnace Creek Airport on January 29, 2011. the cause for the accident could not be determined.
